MAXIMILLIAN HECKER: I AM NOTHING BUT EMOTION

When given its full name, I Am Nothing But Emotion, No Human Being, No Son, Never Again Son, it’s clear German singer/songwriter Maximillian Hecker is something of a thinker. Luckily, he’s also something of a songwriter. Easily one of the most brutally honest and strangest people I’ve ever interviewed, he wears his heart on his sleeve and lives his art, so his musings on life and love ring a little deeper than the regular by-numbers artist. I Am Nothing but Emotion… is a dreamy affair that recalls the sweetest moments from REM in parts and is full of open wounds which are laid bare with an admirable honesty and a true feel for melody. His music is everything to him and in turn he is everything to his dedicated fans. With this record and tracks like the beautiful ‘The Greatest Love of All’ it’s finally clear to outsiders why that is.
