The second incarnation of Hong Kong’s premier indie rock band, Poubelle International, have self released their debut five track EP.
The three piece (two Australians and a Kiwi) are one of the few “local” bands who are neither pofaced noodlers nor over excited amateurs who think more about the next beer rather than penning a good tune.
Their palette of indie song structure with a harder rock sound sums up all that’s good about the training grounds like the Wanch and Underground.
EP opener ‘The Sell Out’makes us think of The Strokes if they’d been born Melbourne rather than New York; and although none of the band members claim to have listened to them, there’s a hint of The Eels there too.
Singer and guitarist Ben tells us that he hopes to sell the EP via local hardware and grocery stores on both sides of the harbour. With any luck HMV will bother to stock it too. It’d be a crying shame if they didn’t because this release sums up all that’s good about the current indie rock scene in Hong Kong.
