Album – Yeasayer : Odd Blood (Mute)

In this reviewer’s opinion, this is the album of the year so far. After a three-year lull from their first and fantastic album, All Hour Cymbals, the evolutionary Odd Blood was something of high anticipation and orgasmic relief. With 80s style kinetically electronic clashes and bangs wound tightly together with hetero-sexy, Prince-like vocals and a mix of night-time animal sounds, Yeasayer have grown from street-cool kids to fresh ‘n’ suave adolescents. The first single, ‘Ambling Alp’ holds lyrics much like Cat Stevens during his proud father era yet sung in a way that brings the D.I.S.C.O days back to any aging papas. ‘I Remember’ is a smooth track that transports you to a Cardiff beach at dusk, leaving you there to pine over that which you want to remember the most. Other standout songs include ‘Love Me Girl’, ‘Rome’ and…actually, scrap that, all 10 tracks are to be listened and loved.
