Hong Kong’s first agency for independent designers and illustrators took over the ArtFinger Gallery on Hollywood Road for the launch party of their brand new website, HATCH.HK last Thursday 10th December.
This visually stunning animated movie runs with the post-apocalyptic cliché of man-overrun-by-machines. After a war that ends all biological life all that’s left is a handful of numbered, sentient rag-dolls and a brutal prowling villain. We follow the titular character 9 on his adventure to the film’s unsatisfactory conclusion.
Eleven paintings and one skateboard hang on the wall at ufoArtgallery in Graham Street, Central. At first glance Cowdroy’s intricate ink work is deceptively traditional. On second glance, however, the viewer notices a water tap which spews out the detailed Japanese kois. Walk over to the next painting to find the inked tradition blazing out from a painted match stick.
Unquestionably one of the most entertaining acts during the recent Clockenflap festival, Yacht, aka founder Jona Bechtolt and the svelte Claire L. Evans, have taken indie dance by storm with their latest LP See Mystery Lights. Brouhaha spoke to Jona about lights in the sky, iPhone punk, evolution and city-wide depression.
Everyone’s unofficial favourite performance at Clockenflap was Beijing electro-cabaret band Pet Conspiracy’s sexually charged show. Backstage with a post-performance glow singer Helen answered Brouhaha’s straight-in-no-kissin’ questions on sex, man-love, drinking and the big HK.

Day two began still reeling from a stupendous performance from Saturday’s headline act, Los Campesinos. The young six-piece gathered the remaining festival goers from all corners of the venue to join the already crowded and electrified mass squashed up to the stage for an unforgettable closer.

7th November 2009 – Day 1 of Clockenflap Music and Media-Arts festival – the ball is set rolling with some stunning performances, setting the bar high early. Chochukmo and Pet Conspiracy get the crowd roaring as spirits ebbed and flowed to the varied performances.
