On Sunday the 31st of October the race starts at 10am (you could maybe even go without going to bed) and the route sees the sedan chair runners and sitters make their way around The Peak, all in the good name of charity.
It starts at the Matilda International Hospital and once it’s over the midday bazarre begins.

Over one and a half thousand artists, designers and other types’o’folk from around the world entered the global poster design competition and to mark the end of an amazing run there’ll be a week-long exhibition and a rooftop party.

The five-day exhibition is at the Fringe Club between the 12th and 19th of October, with the party being held on the roof on Thursday the 18th. Those who went to the opening party know it’s the place to be with lots of arty types and Australian-style (beery) fun to be had.

This year’s theme was ‘glass half full’ and you can view all the finalists here, including Hong Kong’s very own tuan tuan and China Stylus.

If you like things like the best music played in the city, free entry, great times, free badges and lovely people, then Philia is the place to be.

Where’s Philia? That’s STILL an oft-too-heard question. You got up the escalators past Dragon-i, where you’ll see some of the world’s worst people beginning their evening of pre-booked tables and showy liquor purchases in lieu of a personality. Once you’ve had your fill of staring into a void of nothingness you carry on up to Cafe O, turn left and there it is! The EXACT OPPOSITE of everything you’ve just seen down at D-i.
By this point you should hear perfect indie music cued by the fair hands of DJs Mike Mystery, Jane Blondell and Yuen Chi Chung and The Dark Spark, who will be playing her final HK set before tootling off to Australia.

So go go go. Drinking, dancing and smiling are order of the day.

This year’s theme is “A Glass Half Full” – keeping in full with the tradition of positivity that both Simon and Nathan so aptly conveyed in this month’s interview with them, Positive People. Check the info after the break and get scribbling.

“We would like you to design a poster in response to this that will have a positive influence on the viewer. The theme can be interpreted anyway you see fit. Judges will be looking for original concepts, lateral thinking and inspired designs. The poster will be up in Melbourne streets, so keep in mind it should also standout against the city landscape.”

Entry Specifications

All entries must be received by 5pm Friday the 10th of September AEST. All entries must be uploaded via: www.positive-posters.com. To be eligible entrants must complete all stages of the online entry process:

1. Design a portrait, CMYK, 300dpi A1 (594 x 841mm) poster responding to the theme: “A Glass half full

2. Upload a 72dpi version of a portrait A3 (210 x 420mm) poster by 5pm AEST September 10th 2010. It must be in
CMYK and .jpeg formats.

3. Submit a rational describing how your design solution matches the brief. (100 word max).

Judging ProcessAs each entry is submitted, they are approved by our submissions coordinator and uploaded to our online gallery. After the 10th of September, Positive Posters will review the entries and shortlist 30 posters for inclusion in the exhibition. From this shortlist, 6 international judges will choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Eligibility

The annual Positive Poster competition is open to all designers worldwide (whether student, professional or recreational). Entries can be from an individual or a collective (such as a studio).

An individual can only have authorship of one poster. If an entrant submits a poster as part of a collective, they cannot submit a poster as an individual as well, and vice-verser.

If this applies to you, then spend your Friday night away from the chants and square eyes and enjoy a night of pure rock and roll brought to you by one of Hong Kong’s leading groups in the music scene – Supersonic. Up on stage you’ll find Poubelle International (who will be playing their last gig with the current bassist) with support from Unixx as well as bundles of indie music in-between. Head over to Backstage Live, Wellington Street at 20:00 for that thing we do called dancing.
